How to Fix a Broken iPhone Screen

You feel something crunch during a game of flag football, reach down and-oops-you forgot to take your iPhone out of your pocket. Now you've got an expensive but useless paperweight, and you're not going to be happy.
If you've got a broken iPhone screen, you know that helpless feeling that only comes from being a trendsetter without his trend. C'mon, we've all been there, there's no shame in it. You may be shocked to find out that the cost of fixing it is somewhere close to the cost of replacing the whole product-around $250, according to Apple Care.

You can find the service for less, depending on where you get it done, of course, as some independent websites offer much better pricing. Rapid repair websites, an iPod, iPhone  offers the service for $200, which is a bit easier to take.

Still, you might feel that a broken iPhone screen shouldn't cost $200, even if the parts are proprietary and the process complicated. You might feel like it shouldn't cost $100, or even--$10.

The $5 iPhone Screen Quick Fix

Well, you're in luck. Epic Proportions, a user on the somethingawful.com forums, has made a guide to replacing an iPhone touch-screen for about $5, provided that you already have a dremel and that you're somewhat handy.

Fix a cracked iPhone screen on the cheap ArsTechnica

The process involves cutting out the broken iPhone glass with a razorblade, removing excess glue with some Goo Gone, and cutting a piece of plastic (which you can get at any hardware store) to fit the shape of the phone, then rounding the edges with the dremel and shading the appropriate parts of the screen black. The step by step is contained at the link above, if you'd like some more specific instructions.

Glass Screen Protector for iPhone scratch proof protect from screen damage crack

Your iPhone will be less resistant to scratches, and it won't look like new except from a distance, but since the alternative is paying about $250, it's a real bargain and not that hard to pull off. Epic Proportions reports that the touch screen works fine after the hack is completed.

I tested this by replacing the screen on a similar touch device, a GPS, using the same method, and it seemed to work, although the iPhone hack certainly requires a bit more skill with a drevel, and it voids your warranty-though if your screen is broken, the warranty is probably void already. Call Apple to find out.

If you've done this quick fix, post any tips you have.

How to Prevent Scratches on Your iOS / Android Smartphone Screen

iOS / Android smartphones are expensive gadgets and you should treat it with care. One of the biggest problems you might be faced with is the number of scratches that can occur because of everyday use of the phone. Once the screen gets scratched too much, you might find it difficult to see what you are doing when attempting to use it. That is unacceptable because it renders the phone useless.

Here is how to prevent scratches on your  iOS / Android Smartphone screen:
Phone Case: Purchase and use a phone case for your  iOS / Android phone. These cases are meant to help protect your phone from getting scratched up. You can then feel safe in putting the Android in your purse or pockets without it getting scratched. This is one accessory that every cell phone user should have, not just Android owners.

Storage: When you put your phone away, put it away in a place where nothing will rub against the screen. Your Android screen is very sensitive to scratches. Don't slip it into your back pocket or your purse without protecting the screen. Lay the phone so that the screen faces upwards at all times. This will keep any debris or other articles from harming the  iOS / Android screen.

Screen Protectors: There are screen protectors that will help keep your  iOS / Android from getting scratched. They come in packs of three and can be purchased from the store. In fact, you can purchase them from many other locations as well, including kiosks in your local mall. The screen protector will prevent anything coming into contact with your Android smartphone's screen thus keeping it safe from scratches.

Kids: Keep your  iOS / Android out of the hands of your children. It's a phone, a very expensive phone. Your children shouldn't be using it as a toy. Keep it out of reach of small children especially. They don't know that they are scratching the surface of your Android's screen and they don't care. They just think it's a cool toy.

Being Careful: The best way to ensure that you don't get scratches on your  iOS / Android smartphone is to be as careful as you can about using it. Don't do things that you know could harm the surface of your phone. Use the pad of the finger to maneuver the screen instead of the fingernail. Never use objects to manipulate the touch screen other than objects that are specifically made for it. That means your fingers. Being careful at all times is the best way to prevent scratches from occurring to your  iOS / Android phone.

Scratches on your  iOS / Android smartphone can easily occur if you aren't careful. It is extremely aggravating to get scratches on the screen of your phone to the point that you can't see what you are doing. Follow the tips above for helping to prevent scratches for a longer life on your  iOS / Android phone.

How to Troubleshoot a Smartphone

"Jump Start" Procedure for a Smartphone

A Smartphone doesn't seem very intelligent when you discover that it won't do what you want it to do. Before you grab your eyeglasses and magnifying glass [some of the print in the owner's manual that came with your equipment is difficult to read without one] take a few minutes and try to diagnose the problem yourself. You'll soon discover that the components that make up a Smartphone work differently than the cell phones of the past.

Reboot Procedure

Follow the procedure that power's off your phone. Wait about two minutes and then power on your phone. Sometimes you need to reboot your Smartphone, for the same reason you often need to reboot your computer.

Soft Reset

Open the cover to the phone's battery compartment - make sure to turn the phone off before you remove the cover. Gently lift the battery out of the phone. Wait two minutes and then reinstall the Smartphone battery and fasten the cover to the battery compartment; Turn the phone back on. Check to see if the phone works properly.

Download Process

Check your owner's manual for the website of your Smartphone's manufacturer. Find the troubleshooting index and look for a reference to a system reset. If a reset program is available follow the instructions carefully. If a reset program does not exist, follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in your manual.

Technical Service

Locate your merchandise receipt and all "extra" items you may have purchased with the phone and revisit the Smartphone seller. Explain the problem you have with the phone and ask for a resolution.

Smartphone Tech Problems: What to Do and How to Get Help

It's really frustrating when your smartphone - the bridge that closes the gap between your clients, friends, etc. - isn't working. Your phone you cannot make or take calls. The integrated speaker, microphone, and even the display have died out.

It's easy to go ballistic and bonkers. But keep calm and follow the steps below before calling your phone's support team.

Running An Initial Diagnosis
Your phone's internet workings are complex, but it is nowhere near as complicated as a PC's. With that in mind, there are a few things you can do to pinpoint and maybe even fix the problem without the need for waiting on the phone for hours.

First, try to check the firmware of your phone. If it's not up to date, try to get the latest firmware patch and updates from the internet. If that doesn't cut it, take off and replace the following components one at a time to isolate the problem:

  • - SIM card

  • - Battery pack

  • - Any storage medium or device (ex.: SD Cards)

If, after removing and replacing the components above, your phone is still malfunctioning, it's time to call for help. But who do you call - the manufacturer or your mobile phone contractor?

Making The Call - Some Important Reminders
Before anything else, you should call your cell phone contractor and not the manufacturer. Because often warranty services for mobile phones are from your contractor and not directly from the manufacturer. An exception is the Apple iPhone, since Apple itself takes over the handling support issues.

If it turns out that your phone has a manufacturing error that has affected other units of the same model, getting it fixed by bringing your phone directly to the branch of your mobile phone contractor will cost less time and hassle. The technician, first, has to see the phone and check it up personally to process a warranty or replacement request. Once you're there however, it's very easy to arrange for a replacement unit, and it saves you days of waiting time.

Learning to Use a SmartPhone so Easy a Toddler Can Do It

Adults around the world who will not buy an iPhone or any other smart gadget, and use the excuse they will not be able to learn how to do it, listen up. My 3-year-old toddler has learned how to use the iPhone without any help from her parents, in less than a year. So if, using this excuse listen up, and learn how my daughter has accomplished this. If her techniques are copied, then anyone could be on the same road to using any smart phone. However, she has made phone calls it is usually to the wrong person unless their picture is next to it. She knows how to open and play all the games, music, weather, email, text, and how to mute the phone. Did I mention she can do all this without knowing how to read?

My daughter can use the iPhone, because she has learned what works through trial and error. While the callbacks from people you do not want to talk to are annoying, no one should have any problems learning the same way. I can give some pointers on working the iPhone that helped my daughter.

Look at the application symbols that are displayed on the phone. These symbols represent what the program does. If wanting to listen to music on your phone, then look for the symbol that shows a musical note. If wanting to check the weather then look for the sun or clouds on the phone. This basic recognition process has allowed me to listen to my own radio DJ, without having to push a button.

Everyone must remember they are not going to break the phone by pushing a bunch of buttons. The best way to learn is through making mistakes. If an elderly man accidentally opens the weather app when trying to make a phone call, two lessons have been learned. He now knows where the weather application is, and that button does not make phone calls.

My daughter also displays a trait that a lot of people do not. Do not be afraid of these advanced electronic devices. While she just does not know better. The people, who refuse to buy an iPhone, usually do not buy them in fear. The iPhone is not going to bite. Anyone learning these smart phones is not going to be considered less of a person. Just because someone needs help learning a new device.

It is essential to remember that no one learns these new smart phones overnight. Most people need weeks to figure out everything these smart phones do. In fact, my daughter can do some things on the iPhone that I did not know could be done. I grew up in the middle of this smart phone age, and even I do not know how to work the majority of these smart devices.

Why Smartphone Prices Are Set to Drop Dramatically

Changes Income and Saturation of Market Likely to Cause Phone Prices to Fall

Let's face it, smartphones have become ubiquitous-people are using them for everything from making calls, texting and chatting, to looking for restaurants. places to hook up and driving directions. But using a smartphone is still relatively expensive. First there is the cost of the phone, then the cost of the plan. Up till now, people have been willing to foot that bill. But there are signs that may change soon as people find it harder to make a living in the post-recession era. Just recently, the Associated Press published a report noting that 4 out of 5 adults in America are struggling with joblessness, poverty or are living on government assistance. When it comes to choosing between paying the rent versus the phone bill, the rent is eventually going to win out.

But there's another factor at play-the pervasiveness of the cell/smart phone has led to an inevitable saturation point. At some point in time, everyone that is going to buy a smartphone has done so. When that happens, phone purchases level off as first time buyers disappear, leaving just sales of upgrades. One indication that this is occurring now, is the recent price drop announced by Blackberry. Not only did the company drop the price of its phone, more tellingly, it dropped the price on its service contracts as well. Indications are that others will soon follow suit. As part of its announcement, Blackberry hinted that smartphone customers have grown weary of paying too much of their disposable income for a device that isn't actually necessary to conduct their lives-in other words, smartphones are still a luxury item, and because of that, they have the choice of simply discontinuing service and living without one. Simple economics dictates that when demand drops, so too do prices.

There are also signs that prepaid phones will cause service contract prices to drop. As more consumers find they are having trouble paying for high service contracts, they opt for prepaid phones and cards. Recently, most of the major carriers began offering prepaid plans, hoping to cash in on the recent trend. Smaller companies too have entered the fray which means the price of those prepaid cards at Wal-Mart, 7-11 and other outlets will soon fall as well, putting additional pressure on companies trying to survive on their service plans alone.

Taken together, it appears that consumers will be the winners as service carriers resort to price cutting as a means of retaining customers-a move that was seen in the long distance market after the breakup of AT&T. And that will surely lead to lower prices for phones as well as the cost of using them.

Is Cell Phone Use Dangerous During Pregnancy?

I never leave the house without my cell phone. That's in sharp contrast to my behavior years ago, when I often didn't even know where my mobile phone was (and if I did, it certainly wasn't charged). Cell phones and smartphones have become to adults today what computers were just over a decade ago. Still, the debate rages on about their safety. If you're considering becoming pregnant, or are pregnant now, you may be curious about the risks, if any, to your unborn baby from your cell phone usage.

The studies

One of the most widely touted studies about cell phone use and unborn children was done in 2010 and published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. It found a correlation between cell phone use in mothers and some behavioral problems in children. However, the study reported some limitations (size, when the cell phone exposure occurred, etc.) and there's no clear cause and effect relationship demonstrated. A follow-up study with the same participants is planned.

Another, more recent, study published in 2012 found that cell phone exposure altered the brains of pregnant rats. Further examination of these results is needed.

The risks

Though there is still some evidence that your cell phone usage could cause cancer, there isn't any evidence that the risk translates your baby. There's currently no known risk of birth defects caused by cell phone usage during pregnancy, which should also be a big relief for expectant mothers. The risk of behavior problems later in life (including attention, hyperactivity, and social issues) is still unconfirmed.

Another potential risk? Cell phone use could also impact the amount of melatonin passed on to your unborn baby, impacting sleep cycles.

The verdict

Since there's not enough evidence at this point to create a clear link between cell phone use in expectant mothers and problems with children, you should feel relatively comfortable dialing away. If you spend an excessive amount of time on your smartphone, you may want to consider cutting back your usage during pregnancy. Alternately, consider using a hands-free headset and skip the use of your belly as a phone rest.

If you have any concerns, you can mention your cellular phone usage to your doctor or midwife at an early prenatal appointment, just in case new studies or evidence to the contrary come to light.

Of all the things you need to cut out cold turkey during pregnancy, it doesn't look like your smartphone or cell phone need to be one of them. Until firm evidence to the contrary appears, don't expect moms-to-be to put down those phones just yet.

The Five Reasons Why You Need Tablet PCs and Smartphones

Computers Just Aren't Enough Now

At one point in the time, computers used to be sufficient for business and personal uses. From desktop computers at home to notebooks in coffee shops for traveling businessmen, no one really thought that there was any need to other system to fulfill our technological needs.

Times have, however, changed, and now, the technological culture demands the presence of two major types of devices - tablet PCs and smartphones.

1. Everywhere Anywhere (speed and access)

There are so many reviews and comparisons out on Web about smartphones and tablet PCs now. They are living evidences on how common and mundane these devices have become. Walk into any college campus today - you will undoubtedly see popular smartphones like iPhones, Samsung Galaxy SII, Motorola's Razr, and so on. The number of tablet PCs has increased as well, and Apple's iPad now faces fierce competitions from Samsung's Galaxy Tab, Blackberry's Playbook, and just recently,Microsoft announced its own tablet PC called surface with upcoming Windows 8.

These smartphones and tablet PCs have gained popularity because they are fast and allow access to a wide range of entertainments. If one can think of a use, there is usually an app for that action or thought in the Android or iTunes app stores. Checking e-mails and browsing web are only small part of this new technology.

2. Entertainment for Everyone
More specifically, smartphones are known for some of their addicting mobile games, such as Angry Birds, Temple Run, 100 Floors and so on. Tablet PCs also share similar arena of apps for games, movies, comics, and countless features to spend the time. Some apps are free while others only require small amount of money compared to the cost incurred for computer games and videogames.

3. Work at Home, Office, etc
On the other side of benefits for smartphones and tablet PCs is the usefulness in workplaces. All of these devices usually accommodate files in PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and various audio and visual files. With the use of apps like Dropbox, it is easy to make "take outs" (like in fast foodrestaurants) for important files from work to home and vice versa. They do not replace the necessity of computers for typing reports and analyzing complex data in Excel, but what smartphones and tablet PCs allow suffice the needs for people traveling for business meetings and conferences.

4. Keep yourself updated with info (apps)
Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and other social media apps have become quicker than mainstream news. This is because with smartphones and tablet PCs, all the information you need at that instant moment can be gained with just a touch. This rapid accessibility to latest news is assisted by apps for individual newspapers and magazines, and some comprehensive media apps like Pulse that "pull" headlines.

5. Connected with others
Whether it's with your best friend from elementary school or the love of your life from your favorite TV show, the connection made possible under smartphones and tablet PCs changed the way people responded to each other. For a lot of younger generations, calling has been replaced by Facebook chat app in smartphones or face-to-face Skype in tablet PCs, and of course, unlimited texting that can now even take place with people overseas (KakaoTalk app).

The technology has not only changed, but evolved. Smartphones and tablet PCs did not just replace computers - they became computers and much more.

Best Social Media Apps and Hacks...No Smartphone Required!

Scheduling on Google Plus, posting to Instagram and Vine without a phone, and more

I'm going to give you insights about tools that will make your social media marketing a million times easier (and cooler). I'm also going to suggest some tools and applications that let you [legally] hack your Instagram and Vine accounts in order to create great content. You'll be able to focus less on the technical aspects of social media and more on the fun process of creating and interacting with your audience after reading this article.

Scheduling Posts to Google Plus Profiles and Pages
Later Edit: Unfortunately Google Plus is no longer available since April 2019.
The Do Share app is a Google Plus scheduler available through the Chrome Web Store. At first, it was not able to function unless Google Chrome would be running, but the app description now indicates that it works offline. Additionally, it's compatible with multiple Google+ profiles and posting to communities. Users can also save drafts to resume for later scheduling.

HootSuite and Buffer have been the leading social media management applications for several years, and so it was about time that they got on board by allowing posts to Google Plus pages from their platforms. If your business has a Google Plus page (not a profile) then you will want to use one of these programs instead.

Social Media Marketing Workbook: How to Use Social Media for Business 2019 Update

Creating and Posting to an Instagram Account from a Computer

Just because people don't have smartphones doesn't mean they have to be excluded from all the fun on Instagram. Pixsta was created to let users create profiles and post their pics from the comfort of a computer. Of course, phones are convenient tools for capturing and preserving moments on the go, but not everyone has the capability to make that happen. PCs and Macs are forever the fallback technology to save the day when phones don't quite make the cut.

Ways to Create Vines without a Smartphone

My all-time favorite of this list is VineClient. Pretty much anything that can be done on Vine from the smartphone can be done from this app too. (Note: this is a good alternative for Windows Phone users who are frustrated by all the quirks and glitches of the beta Vine apps like 6sec.) Yes, VineClient even allows uploading custom videos. They just need to be under 5 MB. That's super easy to do on programs like Adobe Flash and PowerPoint, which is what I used for this particular vine.

Have you found any apps or third-party sites that make social media management easier?

Have you tried any of the above programs as well? Tell me what you think and connect with me on Google Plus, Instagram, and Vine.

The Ultimate Guide to Smartphone Alternatives

There is no doubt that with the dawn of Apple's  iPhone came a smartphone craze that has revolutionized the cell phone industry. But let's face it, with the recent down curve of the worldwide economy, who want's to pay $80-$120 a month for mobile Internet access, e-mail, talk and text? That is $960-$1,440 yearly just for a computer in your pocket!

Oh yeah, and that's not including the taxes and fees that add up to about $15 monthly ($180 yearly). The sad part is that now all cell phone companies require you to have a data plan with a smartphone (Even unlocked phones). Translation: if you own a smartphone, your are forced to pay the $960-$1440 yearly, just for mobile access to e-mail and the Internet. By the way, did I mention that with most data plans, you are also paying for unlimited text, something you may not even use?

Now that we've identified the problem, we'll identify the (Many) solutions. If you want to save $360-$840 a year then you may want to consider the following:

An iPod Touch:

In a few words, the iPod touch is essentially an iPhone without the phone. You have complete access to the app store, and the pod has wi-fi, which means access to the internet, email, and YouTube. There is also a tiny mic available from USB Fever http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=662 (You won't need one for the third generation 32 and 64 GB), so combined with the already built in speakers, the txtdrop app http://www.txtdrop.com/iphone-app.php and the Skype app http://www.skype.com/download/skype/iphone/, you can use your iPod as a smartphone!

I must also note that I've used my touch to write plays, proposals, and even essays using the notepad app, so its great for students. Oh, and it is still a music player!

More Information & Review: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

The Zune HD:

The Zune HD is Microsoft's answer to Apple's I-pod touch. The Zune HD, like its competitor, is basically a smart mp3 player, but unlike its competitor includes a FM/HD radio and high definition graphics great for watching video, playing games, checking e-mail and web browsing (Wi-fi). With a download of zNotes, a notepad app, you can compose essays, poetry or whatever you want on your zune. The only drawback is Zune's lack of apps which are still in development and will be available by the end of the year. Still if you are attracted to cheaper price tags ($189 for a 16GB player) and superior audio-visual performance, I'd give the Zune HD a go.

An Internet Tablet/MID/UMPC:

Internet tablets, also known as "Mobile Internet Devices" (MID), are multimedia enabled, handheld computers with wireless web browsing abilities (Wi-fi). They are meant for personal mobile computing, rather than professional mobile computing, so they are perfect for students and busy house moms or dads. Since you can connect to the internet, you can also check e-mail on-the-go. Most MIDs on the market are in the slider form factor with a QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen. In terms of size, MIDs tend to be slightly bigger than smartphones so they fit perfectly in purses, backpacks, or briefcases. Best of all, many high quality versions are available for under $300, so you can probably afford one.

UMPCs are slightly bigger than MIDs and can function the way larger sized laptops can, with some models including a disk drive. The only down side: they generally cost as much as laptops do, which is well into the thousands.

For functionality and affordability check out these: SmartQ 7  or Q 5, Archos 5 (http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5/), Sony Mylo 2 , Nokia N810 (http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/N810/)

List of available MIDs/UMPCs http://www.umpcportal.com/products/

A Netbook:

Netbooks, commonly known as mini-laptops or "laptots", are very small, lightweight versions of their larger cousins, the laptop. These things are so small, they can fit in your bag! Netbooks are designed for mobile internet access, e-mail and computing, so most models have a Wi-fi and bluetooth, and allow you to create and edit documents on the go. Most models also include a webcam, so you can chat on the go. The best thing about laptots are the small price tag, some even costing less than smartphones, so I would take advantage of holiday sales or eBay to get one even cheaper.

Check out these brands: Acer, HP , and Asus (http://asus.com/ProductGroup1.aspx?PG_ID=7dDelmkESu9DXgVB - Under the Eee PC 9" & 7" catagories)

The Peek Device:

The Peek is a smartphone-sized QWERTY device that allows you to e-mail on the go, with nationwide coverage, for $19.95 monthly (No contract or taxes). The Peek Pronto, a newer version of the classic Peek, allows you to text message and e-mail for the same, $19.95 monthly. Don't want to pay to use the device monthly? No problem! An offer from amazon https://www.amazon.com/Peek-Messaging-Lifetime-Service-Included/dp/B002MXXBKY/ allows you to purchase the Peek for $299.95 and you can email and text message for life. This offer also covers any future device upgrades, so you'll never have to pay a monthly fee again. Many features include directions, weather, news, and local search via the askpeek service. The Peek is a great way to stay connected to your e-mail 24/7, if Wi-fi and hotspots are not an option.

A Handheld Organizer:

The original PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), these devices have evolved into handheld computers thanks to the recent smartphone boom. Most handheld organizers nowadays run on windows mobile and can also play video and music. Also, many have Wi-fi and email access so you can browse the web and check your email. Sound familiar? Of course it does! The features on these devices are the same as any windows mobile phone the only difference is...they aren't cell phones and thus no monthly bill.

Check out these brands: Hp iPAQ (https://store.hp.com/us/en?jumpid=re_r11662_redirect_ETR), Asus Mypal (https://www.asus.com/us/)

What to look for in PDAs

Best (Phoneless) PDAs  https://www.consumersearch.com/smartphones

All these options paired with a good messaging phone http://www.straighttalk.com/ allow you to have access to all smartphone features, without the smartphone bill. While some may argue that the beauty of the smartphone is the combination of the cellphone with a computer, not everyone has to agree. At the end of the day with a smartphone you will always have to subscribe to expensive data services to be able to use it. Even with these great alternatives, is it worth it? You decide! As for me, a Straight Talk phone and a Nokia N810 (http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/N810/) will do just fine =).

Break Free from Your Smartphone

Ten Ways to Break Free from Your Smartphone: You Can Do It

Smartphones are extremely popular in the world today. Just take a look around you.
You will often see someone using an iPhone or Droid.
These phones combine the usefulness of a mobile phone with the abilities of a portable computer.
Smartphones can access the Internet, take pictures and even talk to you. The downside is that these phones can be addictive.
They can consume our daily lives. But you can do something about it. Here are ten ways to break free from your smartphone.

10. Check at intervals.
It is not necessary to check your phone every time it beeps. Try checking it at intervals, maybe every hour or so?
Besides, if someone really needs you, they will call.

9. Turn it off in the car.
Turn your phone off in the car. This could save your life. In January 2010, the National Safety Council reported that 28% of all car crashes involved mobile phones and texting. In some states, it is illegal to use your phone while driving.

8. Delete some apps.
Do you really need all of those apps on your smartphone? The games may be fun, but they are major time-wasters.
Eliminate some of your distractions and delete some apps. You can do it.

7. Detach it from your body.
If your phone is constantly on your body, you will continue to be a slave to it. Take it off and put it down.
Your phone is not going anywhere. You can always come back to it later.

6. It may be bad for your health.
Research has shown that mobile phone usage may have adverse effects on your health. It could contain bacteria, distract you or even hurt your thumbs.

5. If you need a computer, use a computer.
Your home computer can do almost everything that your smartphone can, and better.
Become less dependent on your phone by using your computer to check e-mails, adjust your calendar or surf the Internet.

4. Get a real camera.
Your phone may be able to take pictures. But a digital camera can take better ones. Get a good digital point-and-shoot or SLR camera and see a world of difference.

3. Discover other ways to stay in touch.
There are other ways to text and chat with friends.
Computer programs like Skype and ooVoo are two great voice, video and chat programs. They are also free.

2. Ban mobile phones from the dinner table.
What ever happened to family time? There is no need to have mobile phones at the dinner table.
Dinner should be a time when the family comes together to eat, talk and enjoy each other. The smartphones can wait.

1. Invest your time in more important activities.
Think about how much time you spend on your smartphone.
Now think about all of the other things you could be doing instead. Spend time with your loved ones.
Learn a new skill. Develop a passionate hobby. Go outside and walk!
There are so many more rewarding things to do than fiddling with a smartphone.

Smartphones are useful and oftentimes necessary in our daily lives.
But do not let them consume you. Take time to enjoy the things that the smartphone has made you forget.

What does it actually mean to "tether" one mobile device to another? And why would we even care about doing this? Before digging a bit deeper into the advantages of tethering your Android tablet to your smart phone, let's look at the commonly accepted definition for tethering so that we are all on the same wavelength.

According to Wikipedia: "Tethering is the use of a mobile device such as a mobile phone to supply internet access for another device which is otherwise unconnected, using the mobile device as a modem. This can be done through Bluetooth wireless technology or cables (such as USB)." Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethering

It is easy to see why tethering would be of use to us. Tethering allows you to connect your Android tablet to the internet via your cell phone's built in 3G connection. The recent explosion of the touch screen tablet craze, tethering gives us the ability to save money and hassle by not paying for monthly internet subscriptions for all of our devices. Tethering makes for the most cost effective use of a smart phone.

Tethering Android tablets to a smart phone is useful in emergencies when one needs reliable, fast online access and the nearby Wi-Fi connection is weak or non-existent. Tethering an Android touch screen tablet to a smart phone is great for business people who travel frequently or find themselves needing internet access in normally inconvenient situations. Tethering can bail one out of emergency situations if the internet connection at home is down.

Another advantage to tethering is that it is an ideal option for those who don't like the potential security issues of public Wi-Fi. Tethering is much more secure and allows complete privacy when handling confidential work or other files.

With all the tethering software available and the easy, widespread use of Android, tethering is a very viable option indeed as there is plenty of support in case difficulties arise. Tethering is definitely the next step in advancing smart phone and internet tablet technology. Tethering proves that the way we access the internet expands and gets better each and every day.
